Mom's blue teapotAbout Diana M Davis
Eastern Shore of Virginia
Watercolor Artist

Finding inspiration in color and light, Diana hopes to showcase the beauty of nature that God has blessed us with - lovely flowers, butterflies, birds, fresh vegetables, old machinery, landscapes and antique tractors.

An award-winning artist, Diana grew up on Virginia's Eastern Shore, a place of tranquil beauty. Drawing and painting were very much a part of her life as a child. At the age of 10, she began taking lessons with Emily Daugherty. At 18, she began painting watercolors.

Now, after more than 30 years of experience, Diana's originals can be found in businesses and private collections throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. She loves the freedom and excitement of watercolor and uses the traditional style along with different techniques to express herself.

With the pouring method, she splashes paper with water before pouring on color. After hanging the pieces of paper around her studio, Diana studies them to discover their subject matter. Another technique involves the use of masa paper, which crinkles and gives a batik texture to her paintings.

Diana has participated in one-man and juried shows around Virginia, including Richmond's "Arts in the Park" and Norfolk's "Stockley Gardens Art Festival." A 32-year member and former president of the Eastern Shore Art League, she also shows in Virginia Beach, Williamsburg and Urbana as well as around the Eastern Shore.

Her originals can currently be seen in the following Eastern Shore galleries: Smiling Dolphin in Nassawadox and the Barrier Island Center in Machipongo.

She is available for commissions, such as house, car and pet portraits, as well.

Diana also finds joy as a watercolor teacher, which she has been doing for more than 12 years. She hopes to share her passion for painting and help her students develop their knowledge of the wonderful art of watercolor.

Her workshops have included two through the Eastern Shore Tourism Commission's "Art is Inn" program at Bay View Waterfront Bed & Breakfast (www.bayviewwaterfrontbedandbreakfast.com).

She also has taught in Virginia Beach and at the Oyster & Maritime Museum. Currently, art lessons with Diana are available at various locations on the Eastern Shore - including the Arts Enter in Cape Charles and the ESO Arts Center in Belle Haven.
